What Is Total Fitness?

Total fitness is a multi-dimensional concept that includes a variety of aspects relating to life, including physical, medical, nutritional, emotional, social and spiritual factors. If you integrate all these dimensions positively, they complement each other and result in a happier, healthier and more energetic person.

I will discuss these briefly below so you can learn how to achieve this! But remember it takes time and progress is different for each individual.

Well this one is fairly self-explanatory. Having good physical fitness is what you need in your daily life. Training will aid this and make you improve even more, which can be really helpful for when you get older. Being able to meet the physical demands of life is fundamental to a healthy life.

There are many factors that can contribute to being medically fit, from injury to hereditary. With the presence of illness, injury or drugs (including prescribed meds) that can prevent you being classified as this. If none of these are present then you would be technically "medically fit".

However, it is also worth noting that your medical fitness an be affected by hereditary factors that are beyond your control. Even with a healthy and active lifestyle, it is possible for you to develop life-threatening illnesses and diseases.

Our bodies require a variety of specific nutrients in order to meet the demand of daily living. Your diet needs to be balanced but everyones diet will be unique to each person as we all have different demands and nutritional needs. This can be based on genetics, training style and many other things. It's best to speak to a qualified nutritionist if you are unsure. (Like Ryan!)

We need a combination of Macronutrients (Fats, Carbohydrates and Proteins) and Micronutrients (Vitamins and Minerals). Refer to the eat well section on the NHS website below.

This is a vital component of a persons health and wellbeing. It is defined by the ability to cope with the emotional stresses of modern life. It is estimated that 25% of the UK will experience a mental health problem during their lifetime, yet most people don't dedicate the time or en edgy to developing their emotional fitness like they would with their exercise and diet.

Nowadays you will see people putting more time and effort into things like social media which are actually damaging to your emotional fitness. To be emotionally fit, a person requires a positive self-image, strong levels of self-awareness and confidence. The benefits of all these attributes spill over into all aspects of your life, including relationships with others, stress levels and your ability to empathise with others.

An ability to build and maintain healthy relationships with others is fundamental to being socially fit. A person who lacks the ability to engage positively with the people around them is likely to feel isolated and lonely. The risk of developing a mental illness such as anxiety, is likely to be greater. It is important to be able to communicate and collaborate with other people.

Broadly Speaking, spirituality is based on people beliefs, upbringing and life experiences; these may be religious or not. It can mean many things to many different people. A spiritually fit person is somebody who recognises there are multiple dimensions that make up life and who engages in activities that positively align with those dimensions to develop the total person concept. It means being true to one's self at the deepest possible level.

I hope this has helped you get a deeper understanding into what total fitness is and what areas you might need to work on. This will give a deeper understanding into the complexities of what we are about as a business. We at Fresh 4 Life Fitness make sure to take care of all of these factors, to make everyones journey unique and personal to them ❤️
